Would never have thought about touring on a R1.

I "WAS" looking for a purpose built tourer to do a trip across europe on, but after seeing that i have had my faith re-affirmed that any bike can be used if the flesh is willing. Twisted Evil
That has to be the most inspiring video i have seen in ages, THANKS Smile

That's amazing. Was thinking about getting a dakar but shows what you can do with anything.

Reminds me of the guy doing the Sahara on a TNT.

Surprised there's been no mention of Nick Sanders on this thread??
Touring round the world on an R1 ?!
"Nick's the fastest man around the world
19,650 miles in 19 days 3 hours and 25 minutes"

I've tried reading his latest book, bought off and signed by him at the NEC, but tbh have got bored of it.

It's just one more flat-out circumnavigation, riding almost 24/7, without hardly any interaction with the local environment for the sake of a now unofficial record. Seems more of an endurance race than a tour.

It's also completely asphalt riding, the guy in the video is crossing some serious terrain on a superbike.

Surprised Brilliant stuff, I hope he can get a DVD out.

Loved the amount of water that came out of the exhaust after crossing the river. Laughing

Well, OK maybe it wasn't the best example, but what I was trying to get at was that the R1 is more than capable of long distances required for touring etc

His website can be found here:

https://www.r1goesextreme.com/apus/render.php?&type=2&id=63&template=default

If you have a look at the things that went wrong, and the things he had to do to repair his vehicle, you can see this was no easy task.

I would rather try what Sjaak did than Nick. I want to see these places, not inhale them. According to the website above, Sjaak was on the road at least 3 years. Being able to put World Traveller for occupation is pretty cool.

I bow to the Sjaak (even if I'm not sure how to pronounce his name).

This photo has rung a bell, I saw another photo of him and his blade in Bike magazine a few years ago.
